Stream Team: Giant Leap Forward

Looking to cycle spot-starters each day? Check out the Stream Team, where we tab pitchers that are likely to help you in your quest for fantasy gold.

On Saturday, Brett Anderson struck out six batters while allowing three runs in five innings, nabbing us a win. Today, Mike Pelfrey pitched eight innings of one-run ball, securing us another win. Even with a 5.51 ERA through the first six games of September, the Team has an excellent 25/9 K/BB ratio and 4 wins in 6 starts. The main culprit has been our spot starters' tendency to give up home runs, as they've combined for 8 HRs allowed in this first week of September.

Tomorrow, Brad Penny is looking like a golden spot starter. In his first start back in the National League, Penny blanked the Phillies in Philadelphia, giving up just five hits and a walk in eight shutout innings. This time, he gets to pitch in AT&T Park, which plays better for pitchers. He's made 10 starts in San Francisco in his career, going 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, despite a horrid 23/21 K/BB ratio.

He'll face the Padres, the worst scoring team in the majors. Vegas thinks this will be a low-scoring game, and the line greatly favors the Giants. This tells me that Penny has a great shot at winning a game and putting up a quality start in the process. While he likely won't rack up the strikeouts, we should be looking at something around 7 innings, 2 earned runs, 3 strikeouts and a win.

Looking for another spot-starter? Check out Tommy Hunter, who is 7-3 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.16 WHIP yet still unowned in a majority of fantasy leagues. From the universally unowned pot, I give you Clayton Richard, Penny's opponent in tomorrow's Padres-Giants matchup. Good luck!
