Easy to Find, Hard to Believe Sources for Home Runs

Hideki MatsuiCategorically Speaking is designed specifically for Rotisserie GMs. The information is great for all fantasy baseball formats, but for those of you who could use some help bolstering a specific roto category, this is for you. We're going to pay close attention to players who might be readily available on your waiver wire or who you might target in non-blockbuster trade talks.

I was truly amazed when I looked at the list of top home run hitters over the past 14 days. There were two things that took me by surprise. The first was the man at the top of the list and the second was that three of the top eight power threats over the past two weeks are widely available in fantasy baseball leagues.

Let's first, take a look at the top eight guys (prior to Monday night's games).

1. Hideki Matsui - 7
2t. Adam LaRoche - 6
2t. Jayson Werth - 6
2t. Prince Fielder - 6
2t. Carlos Gonzalez - 6
2t. Jason Bay - 6
2t. Ryan Howard - 6
2t. Carlos Pena - 6

How many of you would have guessed that Matsui would be leading that list? Me neither.

Here's another astonishing factor regarding this list. Three of these players can be easily had in most fantasy leagues.

Hideki Matsui, Yankees - Matsui is only owned in 43% of fantasy leagues. He's batting .265 with 23 home runs on the season but over the past 14 days his average is up to .286 and he has an OPS of 1.088. If you need some quick home run numbers, look for Matsui on your waiver wire.

Adam LaRoche, Braves - What a trade the Braves made with the Red Sox to obtain LaRoche. Since re-arriving in Atlanta LaRoche is batting .406 with seven home runs (all this in 20 games) and in the past 2 weeks he's belted six of those homers and is hitting .459 with a whopping 1.529 OPS. LaRoche is widely known as a second half stud, but this is ridiculous. He's only owned in 39% of fantasy leagues, so grab him while you can and while he's still sizzling hot.

Carlos Gonzalez, Rockies - Not only does Gonzalez have six home runs over the past two weeks, but he's hitting .300 with an OPS of 1.170.The fact that he's only owned in 18% of fantasy leagues is silly. He's worth a look in any fantasy baseball format.
