Looking to cycle spot-starters each day? Check out the Stream Team, where we tab pitchers that are likely to help you in your quest for fantasy gold. While Brett Anderson didn't get all the way through a perfect game, he did give the Stream Team another eight innings of scoreless ball, proving that when a pitcher is on fire, you play the guy no matter which team he's facing. Disregarding our July 18th start that was postponed, in our last two starts the Team has pitched 16 innings while allowing no runs or walks and striking out 13. Did I just jinx Tim Stauffer tonight? Most certainly!
I'd like to pick Joe Blanton again, but he's likely to still be on waivers if you used him for his postponed start on Saturday. If he's available, grab him. The pitcher I like most tomorrow might not be available in your league, but if Chris Volstad happens to be on your free agency list, you have to pick him up for his start against the Padres. Since I like to work a little deeper in free agency and recommend guys that are available in most league, I'll bypass Volstad and suggest Chad Gaudin to you today.
Over the last month, Gaudin has had only one bad start while posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. He's also struck out a remarkable 39 batters in 31.2 innings. If he could just record some wins, he'd be one of the top pitchers over the last 30 days and on many more fantasy teams. Like Stauffer tonight, Gaudin will face the Marlins in San Diego on Tuesday. They haven't gotten anything going on offense since coming off the break, and a ticket to San Diego doesn't cure many offensive ills. I'd expect Gaudin to pitch six innings while giving up 2-3 runs and striking out 6-8 batters. With any luck, the Padres will manage to score some runs off Volstad and give our pitcher a win.
