Looking to cycle spot-starters each day? Check out the Stream Team, where we tab pitchers that are likely to help you in your quest for fantasy gold. After yesterday's start, Kevin Correia provided us with the perfect example of how streaming spot-starters can blow up in your face. However, if you keep plugging away and consistently make the smart decisions, you can overcome those inevitable stinkers. Don't be surprised if Correia is dropped by many owners today -- if so, he still makes a worthwhile pickup if you need some pitching help.
For tomorrow, I'd love for you to grab Randy Wolf for his Petco start, but he's only available in about 50% of fantasy leagues right now. So if Wolf isn't an option for your streaming, I'd take a look at Vin Mazzaro, the young righty in Oakland. He's posted a 28/12 K/BB ratio in his first six starts, and the strikeouts have been trending upward with each outing. Could this be an indication that he's figuring out how to pitch to major-league hitters? His 2.95 ERA and 1.17 WHIP were both impressive ratios in June. You've also gotta love that he's only given up one HR in his six starts.
While we prefer to use Oakland pitchers at home, Mazzaro takes the mound tomorrow in Cleveland against a slumping Indians offense. Grady's bunch has only managed a total of 13 runs in Cleveland's last five games, and the team has dropped to 31-49 on the season. This seems like a good time to be pitching against Cleveland, so let's run Mazzaro out there to make our Stream Team spot start for Saturday. Hopefully he'll give us a quality start and bring us five strikeouts or more, a K total he's been able to reach in each of his last three games.
