Everyone Loves Winners: Especially Winners With Big Strikeout Numbers

Categorically Speaking is designed specifically for Rotisserie GM's. The information is great for all fantasy baseball formats, but for those of you who could use some help bolstering a specific roto category, this is for you. We're going to pay close attention to players who might be readily available on your waiver wire or who you might target in non-blockbuster trade talks.

I know the argument against judging the value of a starting pitchers by wins and losses. I can even buy into to a certain degree. However, until the fantasy baseball community buys in, I need to discuss pitchers who can get your team wins.

If you're fantasy squad is hurting for wins, take a look at three starting pitcher who are available on a lot of waiver wires.

Jason Marquis, Rockies - How can a guy who's leading the National League in wins only be owned in 26% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues? Are we still hatin' on pitchers in Colorado? That's so 1997. Not only has Marquis posted double-digit win totals in each of his last five seasons, but he's currently sporting 3.98 ERA and a reduced walk rate to boot. You'd be doing yourself a favor if you took a good look at signing Marquis.

Kevin Millwood, Rangers - Millwood isn't going to wow anyone with his strikeout numbers (49 in 92.2 innings), but he more than makes up for it with a sub-three ERA (2.72). Millwood has only given up two earned runs in his last three starts (20.2 IP) and last night was his 2nd straight game without allowing an earned run. He's currently owned in only 62% of Yahoo! leagues.

Josh Outman, Athletics - In ten starts, Outman is sporting a 4-0 record with a 3.17 ERA. While the ERA is great only four wins in ten starts doesn't sound like much. Now consider that his four wins have all come within the last month and over that month his ERA is 2.31. That sounds like a young pitcher coming into his own. He's only owned in about 30% of Yahoo! leagues and if the numbers weren't good enough take a look at his game log. Outman hasn't given up more than three earned runs in any of his starts all season.
