Categorically Speaking: Finding Low Cost Fixes for RBI Woes

Categorically Speaking is designed specifically for Rotisserie GM's. The information is great for all fantasy baseball formats, but for those of you who could use some help bolstering a specific roto category, this is for you. We're going to pay close attention to players who might be readily available on your waiver wire or who you might target in non-blockbuster trade talks.

Over the past few weeks nobody has been driving in runners like Evan Longoria. His 28 RBI over the last 14 days is tops in Major League Baseball, and head and shoulders better then anyone else. But, he's not available in any fantasy leagues and you're not prying him away from the owner who drafted him for anywhere close to fair value.

Let's look elsewhere for some help if your rotisserie team needs some more RBI.

Adam Lind, Blue Jays - I'm really getting tired of telling people to go sign Adam Lind. As much as I harp on the explosion we're witnessing this season he is still only owned in 84% of fantasy leagues. His 14 RBI over the last two weeks ranks him eighth among all hitters. If you're not signing him because you're waiting for him to fall back to earth, you're missing out. And you're probably bringing up the rear in your league.

Michael Cuddyer, Twins - Cuddyer started the season slowly, but he's sure caught fire of late. He's driven in twelve runs over the past two weeks and is batting .366/.490/.634. He's only owned in 6% of fantasy leagues. If you have any weaknesses in your outfield, Cuddyer could be an upgrade.

Chris Duncan, Cardinals - With Ankiel out until the end of May, Duncan will see extra playing time in the Cardinals outfield. He's driven in eleven runs over the past two weeks and only owned in 26% of fantasy leagues. His batting average isn't fantastic, but he won't hurt you too much in that area either.

Mike Fontenot, Cubs - We expected Fontenot to reach double digits in home runs this season and he already has five. He's also driven in 17 runs, eleven in the last two weeks. His batting average is killing fantasy owners right now (which might be why he's only owned in 15% of fantasy leagues), but that could be partly due to a 23.9% hit rate. He's also going to be playing a lot of third base until Aramis Ramirez gets back, so he'll have eligibility at second and third base.

Here's how the best RBI producers rank over the past 14 days.

1. Evan Longoria, Rays - 28
2. Jorge Cantu, Marlins - 21
3t. Jason Bay, Red Sox - 18
3t. Johnny Damon, Yankees - 18
5. Adam Dunn, Nationals - 17
6. Ryan Braun, Brewers - 15
7t. Aubrey Huff, Orioles - 14
7t. Adam Lind, Blue Jays - 14
7t. Bengie Molina, Giants - 14
10. Rickie Weeks, Brewers - 13
