Categorically Speaking: Bolstering Your Runs Scored Stat

Categorically Speaking is designed specifically for Rotisserie GM's. The information is great for all fantasy baseball formats, but for those of you who could use some help bolstering a specific roto category, this is for you. We're going to pay close attention to players who might be readily available on your waiver wire or who you might target in non-blockbuster trade talks.

So, your fantasy baseball team isn't doing so well, huh? We've all been there. Either your hitters are all cold at the same time or your pitchers are getting shelled. Nothing seems to be going right.

Look at the bright side. It's only the end of April. There are five good, solid months left for your team to recover. And, one of the ways to try and make that recovery is to focus on rotisserie categories that you may be deficient in.

If you know that you're getting killed in runs scored but doing well in the other categories, then it may be time to find some run scorers without hurting your other stat categories. The same can be said for each of the stat categories your league uses.

Let's take a look at some of the hottest hitters right now and target the runs scored stat category. We may find a waiver wire player or a good trade candidate for you to target.

Runs:
Adam Jones, Orioles - You can start by looking at the Major League leader in runs scored. The combination of him, Markakis and Roberts at the top of the Orioles lineup is speedy and fun to watch. Not only do Jones' 24 runs lead the league, but his nine last week were also tops. Teammate Nick Markakis is right behind his lead of 24 runs scored with 23.

Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox - In addition to scoring eight times in the last week crushed the Yankees with a walk-off home run and is the proud owner of a .600 slugging percentage. He's in the top-five for runs scored for the season and the stacked Red Sox lineup also includes Jason Bay who also scored eight runs last week. Both Bay and Youkilis should continue to score runs at a great rate all season.

Rod Barajas, Blue Jays - Neither Jones or Youkilis are available on many waiver wires currently. The same cannot be said for Barajas. The Toronto catcher is only owned in about 4% of Yahoo leagues. He also scored seven runs last week and enjoyed slash stats of .400/.440/.760. He may even have better then your current catcher.

Here are the top-ten run scorers so far this season.

1. Adam Jones, Orioles - 24
2t. Nick Markakis, Orioles - 23
2t. Marco Scutaro, Blue Jays - 23
4t. Albert Pujols, Cardinals - 21
4t. Alfonso Soriano, Cubs - 21
6t. Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox - 20
6t. Raul Ibanez, Phillies - 20
8t. Torii Hunter, Angels - 19
8t. Brian Roberts, Orioles - 19
8t. Nick Swisher, Yankees - 19
8t. Jason Bay, Red Sox - 19
